Moodle inventor and lead developer visits USP

The inventor and lead developer of the Moodle Learning Management System, Martin Dougiamas, was at USP from the 18th  to the 19th of August 2010 as a guest of honour at the High Level Workshop On Moodle@USP. The workshop which was jointly organized by the Office of Planning and Quality and CFDL which saw participation from Faculty Deans, Heads of Schools/Departments, Lecturers, Campus Directors via video conference and support staff. In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Dougiamas stating that “it is a very rare occasion that inventors visits USP and USP is indeed blessed to have Martin present”.
   
Moodle is USP’s eLearning platform and was developed by Martin Dougiamas in 1999 as a free and open source application. Since then Moodle has grown in terms of usage and communities of developers and practitioners. In his keynote address, Martin elaborated on some of the developments surrounding Moodle and gave a quick demonstration of Moodle 2.0. Martin also gave a public lecture to the USP community where he discussed the pedagogical uses of Moodle.

As part of the workshop, there were also presentations from some of USP’s teaching staff on the innovative uses of Moodle. The workshop also enabled active roundtable discussions between Faculties, CFDL and ITS in the presence of Mr. Dougiamas.
