PacLII, in partnership with the School of Law, promotes free access to South Pacific laws and material via the Internet. PacLII digitises and converts to .html format the legal documents provided by official sources in South Pacific jurisdictions. Search engine facilities and a mirror site, together with some other aspects of technical infrastructure are provided by the Australian Legal Information Institute (AustLII). PacLII is funded by the University of the South Pacific (USP) School of Law, NZAID, AusAID and with the assistance of smaller grants.

Free Law via the Internet

PacLII is part of a worldwide network of Public Legal Information Institutes whose aims include providing free, full and anonymous public access to public legal information via the Internet. Maximising access to law promotes justice and supports the rule of law.

Collection

PacLII covers 20 South Pacific countries and territories. The collection includes primary sources including Journal of South Pacific Law, the Melanesian Law Journal, Law Reform Commission documents and Ombudsman reports. PacLII also manages the Pacific Legal Gateway, a website that organises legal content and research resources that are relevant for the Pacific Island countries.
