International Federation of Physical Education, FIEP Oceania

This is a network of a number of countries in Oceania which aims to network and share information which is relevant to their needs.

Current membership consists of appointed delegates in Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Australia and New Zealand. The delegates were either nominated by their Ministry of Education, Teachers College, College of Education or professional association of physical education.

Aims of FIEP

  • FIEP is the symbol of the International Federation of Physical Education, founded on 02 July 1923. Brussels - Belgium. It is a world wide body, which along with others aims to disseminate information and resources on physical education and sport.
  • It aims to promote in all countries, the development of physical activities, leisure, health and sports for all, teacher training, upgrading and improvement of the PE profession and contributing to international cooperation in these areas.
  • The Federation is an independent, non-governmental and ready to work with all persons, institutions and organizations in pursuit of their goals. It has a network of contacts between individuals and organizations.
  • FIEP is concerned with the scientific and technical aspects of teaching physical education goals.
  • It is recognized by several organizations in the world, such as UNESCO. It is a member of the International Council of Physical Education and Science of Sports (ICSSPE-CIEPSS) and the Steering Committee of AIESEP. It is also recognized by the IOC - International Olympic Committee.
  • FIEP .Published the "Manifesto of Physical Education" in 1971 ... and this was revised in 2000. The manifests were milestones in the formation of all the generations of teachers of physical education.

FIEP Awards

The Decoration is the Cross of Merit International FIEP Physical Education, in recognition to those who made great contributions to the international cause of Physical Education, the Sports Science and Physical Activity. This recognition occurs in two forms: Cross of Gold and Silver Cross.

The Journal of FIEP at International level, began circulating in 1931 and continues to the present day, being published in Brazil. Known as the FIEP BULLETIN (published in: English, French, Spanish and Portuguese) with the ISSN 0256-6419, and is sent to over 120 countries.

The FIEP is made by a Board of Directors: (President, vices, Treasurer and Secretary), The Regional Vice-Presidents (one from each continent), seven international sections, a Board Director, Members of Honor, the General Assembly, National Delegates (one in each country) and the Regional Delegates. Through seven sections (International Scientific, Educational, Sports for All, Olympic Education, Adapted Physical Education, Physical Education and Sport for adults, History of Physical Education), the Fiep develop their work and their own actions in countries where national delegates. These sections have some specific characteristics:

Divisions of FIEP at international level

  1. The International Scientific section: This section aims to balance the knowledge and recent scientific discoveries, and its applications for physical education of children youth and adults, selecting articles to be published in the Bulletin FIEP; looking for research conferences organized , meetings, courses, the connection between theory and practice of physical education to be studied.
  2. The School of Physical Education:The main objective of this section is to further the education of physical education in school environments.
  3. Sport for All: The mission of this section is to contribute to the movement of sports for all ages using physical activity during leisure time (voluntary exercise, sport for all).
  4. Olympic Education: The objectives of this section are to disseminate the educational ideals of the Olympic movement, and to acknowledge its values.
  5. Physical Education for Adults: Deals with the physical activities for people of the Third Age.
  6. Adapted Physical Education: Aims to support the work for the social inclusion of people with special needs.
  7. History of Physical Education and Sport: This section is intended to promote and preserve the History of Physical Education and Sports, in addition to reconstructing the history of FIEP.

The FIEP offers its members:

  1. The FIEP Bulletin: provides educational materials and international information in four languages: English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
  2. The FIEP facilitates cultural exchange through its representatives around the world.
  3. FIEP provides opportunities for scientific, technical and teaching, giving priority to participation in conferences and courses organized by FIEP with lower prices for registration.
  4. The FIEP connects a network of a national delegates, committees and members in more than one hundred twenty countries, essentially via electronic access to the Federation.
