What We Teach and Things We Do.
The division of literature offers courses Written and Oral Literature from the Pacific, Studies in World Literature and specific studies in Fijian and Hindi on Literature and Orature, and specialized units in Theatre Arts. All courses have some component based in Pacific literature, orature or images or films about the region. Special class visits, readings and one on one interviews with writers and area academics are organized for students at all levels in Pacific Literature. The literature division believes in a holistic approach to the study of literature with a particular emphasis on our regional Pacific writing.
Our Focus and Growth Area: Creative Writing.
Most students in the creative writing courses have been published in USP based or regional journals, magazines or on-line. The Pacific Writing Forum within the Division of Literature provides writing and reading space for literature students and mentorship in creative expression. Students get a chance to work with and interact with popular artists in related areas such as painting, choreography, hip hop, rap, and other musical forms.
