Dance at the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies is about original choreographic innovations accompanied by original music compositions. It is a movement away from dance as a mere form of entertainment, or an adjunct of ceremony, towards dance as a serious form of art exploring the possibilities and limits of creative expression through body movements and music compositions.
Under the guidance of Allan Alo, the former Choreographer and Artistic Director or the Oceania Dance Theatre, sixteen artistic dance productions have been developed. Some of these productions were produced by the senior dancers. In addition, the Oceania Centre has focused on the development of dancers through trainee programs, hosting established international dancers and choreographers, attending festivals, going on tours, collaborating with other artists and facilitating seminars and workshops.
