Caregiver Course Launched at USP Lautoka Campus
A course in Caregiving was launched this morning by USP Lautoka Campus Interim Director, Mrs Ruby Vaa. Welcoming students of the first cluster of “Caregiving Fundamentals” for 2009, Mrs Vaa highlighted the opportunity provided to students in the Western Division of Fiji. She emphasized the importance of such a course in the South Pacific Region, including Samoa, where people care for their elderly, sick and disabled. This is a very informative and practical course, she added.
“Caregiving Fundamentals” is offered by the University of the South Pacific Lautoka Campus as part of its Continuing and Community Education Programme. It is a very practical and basic course in caregiving, developed in light of the need to increase the number of skilled caregivers and improve the quality of care they provide. It is no secret that as our society changes and ages, a demand for caring, loving, informed and skilled caregiving is also growing. This course is designed to address needs for such demands and is available to those wishing to learn about caregiving; those already caring for their family and friends; or those interested in a career as a caregiver.
