Diploma in Educational Leadership and Change

Admission Requirements:

  • Persons are eligible to be admitted to study for the Diploma in Educational Leadership and Change if they have:
    1. passed a Senate-recognised Form 7 examination or equivalent or
    2. admission with standing.

Programme Requirements:

  • The Diploma in Educational Leadership and Change consists of eight courses.

Courses:

  1. ED191 (Education Decision - Making and Problem - Solving) - This introductory course in educational leadership and change examines decisionmaking and problem solving at system-level and school-level in developing countries.

  2. ED192 (Educational Project Planning) - This introductory course in educational planning examines the formulation, appraisal, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of educational projects.

  3. ED255 (Introduction To Curriculum Development) - This course aims to introduce students to curriculum theory and practice and to develop an awareness and understanding of the process of curriculum development, with specific reference to the South Pacific region.

  4. ED291 (School Organisation & Management) - This course deals with the nature of school administration, organising the work of staff, instructional leadership, management, the school and the community, and accountability and responsiveness.

  5. ED292 (Educational Planning and Development) - This course builds on concepts learned and skills developed in ED192. It deals with planning processes at the school, local, district and national levels and with the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies for introducing educational change appropriate for developing societies.

  6. either of;
    • ED359 (Educational Research) - This course is designed for senior undergraduate students or prospective postgraduate students with a strong interest in educational research. Basic statistical knowledge is desirable, but not necessary.
    • ED390 (Practicum In Educational Administration) - This course aims to provide practising and potential educational administrators the opportunity to analyse and develop in-depth experiential knowledge and skills needed to function effectively and efficiently at the institutional level.

  7. ED391 (Educational Leadership and Supervision) - This course examines the roles that educational leaders are required to play as curriculum advisors, education officers, and principals and head teachers in the countries of the region.

  8. ED392 (Issues in Educational Administration in the South Pacific) - The course involves a study of selected problems and issues in management and planning of educational systems of the South Pacific region.
