Accountancy body hands over funds to University
The University of the South Pacific received funds of F$26 919.32 from the Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) which will be used towards improving the quality and accreditation of the School of Accounting and Finance (SOAF).
During the handover ceremony on 19 December 2011, the Executive Director of FIA, Mr Murray Mackenzie said that the funds were kept in a separate trust account, which has been accumulating interest over a period of time.
Since the funds were initially set-up for USP, he explained, that FIA felt that the funds should be transferred to the University.
According to Mr Mackenzie, the funds were only used once to provide computers for SOAF.
In accepting the funds, the Vice-Chancellor and President of USP, Professor Rajesh Chandra expressed his gratitude to FIA.
Professor Chandra highlighted that the University has always valued FIA’s partnership particularly in the early years when support was crucial for establishing the accounting programme and strengthening professional relationships.
“We would very much like to see this relationship strengthened and maintained in the future,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
Both Professor Chandra and Mr Mackenzie expressed their support towards the continuation of the partnership.
The FIA was established in 1972 in accordance with the FIA Act 1971.
