STHM is involved in quality research, regionally and internationally, and uses such knowledge to enhance the role of tourism in the development of communities in the Pacific. - On Thursday 3rd March, 2011, Dr Stephen Pratt gave a public lecture at the USP Faculty of Business and Economics Seminar Room. The title was "Minimising Food miles for an island destination"
- David Harrison and Stephen Pratt recently published research on "Political Change and Tourism - Coups in Fiji" in Butler, R. and Suntikul, W. (eds). Tourism and Political Change, Goodfellow Publishers, Oxford, UK, 2010, p160-174.
- Dawn Gibson, Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality, will complete her PhD in July 2012. The topic of her PhD is Sustainable tourism and the challenges of indigenous/community based tourism operators. She recently presented her research at the Regional Conference on Small Business Development and Entrepreneurship in the South Pacific Island Countries at USP Laucala Campus, Suva, Fiji on Thursday September 16 - 17, 2010.
- Our Assistant Lecturer, Marika Kuilamu, is currently undertaking a Masters degree. His research thesis is entitled "Operationalising Sustainability through the use of Tourism Sustainability Indicators". He is scheduled to finish in January 2012. Marika presented the findings from his research at the Islands & Small States Tourism Conference, September 12th - 14th, USP Laucala Campus, Suva, Fiji.
- Our Teaching Assistant, Apisalome Movono, is currently undertaking a Masters degree. His research thesis is entitled "Tourism's impact on communal development in Fiji: A case study of the socio-economic impacts of The Warwick Resort and Spa and The Naviti Resort on the indigenous Fijian villages of Votua and Vatuolalai". He is scheduled to complete in January 2012. Api presented the findings from his research at the Islands & Small States Tourism Conference, September 12th - 14th, USP Laucala Campus, Suva, Fiji.
