The study of organisational behaviour is concerned with the causes of behaviour and the application of this knowledge to understanding of the human aspects of organisational systems and their management. The focus is on individuals, on groups and on organisations as a whole. At the individual level, issues such as needs and motivations in work situations, job design and learning are considered. At the group level, issues such as group dynamics, communication, leadership, team building and group decision-making are discussed. At the organisational level, topics include authority and power, conflict, control and organisational change. The course is anchored in the South Pacific context. Emphasis will be given to management techniques which ensure widespread participation in the design, implementation and monitoring of improvement programmes.
