Experts from CRL (Communications Research Laboratory), Japan

Two short term experts (Dr. Hiroyuki Ohno and Dr. Kazunori Sugiura) from Communications Research Laboratory (CRL), Japan visited Fiji to work on Network Security and IP based Network.

Dr. Ohno is a Network expert and plays an important role as group leader of National Incident Response Team (NIRT) to the Cabinet Secretariat of Japan.
During his 5-day visit in Fiji from 25-29 August, 2003, Dr. Ohno preseted an number of lectures/seminars and received very positive feedback from USP staff/students and Fiji government officials.
Dr. Ohno's major research focus is Internet Crisis Management leading to Research into Network Security Technology. This involves establishing network security technologies that provide security against cyber terrorism and information warfare as an urgent task

Dr. Kazunori Sugiura is an expert of next generation internet technology. This is Dr. Sugiura's second visit to Fiji and provided lectures to the USP staff/students. He played a key role in the proposal of future IP based USPNet by JICA experts in 2002. In visiting USP for the second time, Dr. Sugiura provided consultations on the upgrade of the USPNet experiment in which he proposed two plans using CISCO router. Plan two was considered the best option for the upgrade of USPNet. ITS will start experiment between Suva and Raiwaqa using this configuration.
