Project Update from DFL, Dr. Kader Pramanik

Since starting with the project in September 2004, Dr. Pramanik has been working closely with the counterpart on a number or projects, some of which are a continuation from ones previously implemented.

  • Acquisition of further equipment and software for multimedia production at the multimedia lab at DFL SC.
  • Advisor on the development of CS221: Distributed Information Systems Theory and Implementation, for DFL semester 1, 2005.
  • Coordinated setup of Video/audio production equipment at the multimedia lab at DFL SC.
  • Installation and networking of multimedia PC's at the multimedia lab and facilitating UPS connections for the system.
  • Implementation of audio streaming tutorials for semester 1, 2005 DFL courses. http://www.usp.ac.fj/dfl/atuts.htm
  • Creation and indexing of learning objects for the multimedia database. http://mdb.usp.ac.fj/
  • Coordination of workshop by short terms expert at DFL. Professor Suzuki presented a week long workshop to DFL staff on Instructional Design and Multimedia.
  • Advisor on the evaluation of CS222: Database Management Systems, an e-learning course at USP.
  • Formulated video production methods and multimedia editing tips.
  • Advisor on the MDB Indexing Project, i.e. indexing of DFL course materials in the multimedia database.
  • Advisor on the mini workshop on indexing, reviewing and publishing learning objects in MDB for DFL staff.
  • Formulated database requirement for DFL courses and multimedia materials as per the USP needs until 2010 when all USP courses are made available on DFL mode.

Plans are underway to hold mini workshops for DFL staff showcasing products and work being done at DFL concerning multimedia production and the use of technologies, an awareness seminar on broad band and streaming technologies.
