Digital Video Camera Allocation and Training

 
 

From the Call for Proposals on the Allocation of 10 Digital Video Cameras, a total number of 19 proposals were received.
Proposals were screened based on the clear demonstration that the camera objectives and usage fell within the Project goals and components.

In collaboration with the USP Media Centre, 2 training workshops were held on the 27 - 28 January and 3 - 4 February at the CELT Multimedia Lab, USP.
The main objective of the workshops was to familiarize successful recipients of cameras and other interested participants with how to best use the digital video camera including:

Basic Filming Tips.
How to download digital footage onto the Computer.
Basic editing skills using Windows Movie Maker.

The main aim was to empower participants to use the camera and computer to create small video clips for inclusion in WebCT, PowerPoint presentations, or similar multimedia usage, and to facilitate research/data collection out in the field.

 
The general schedule for the two-day workshops is enclosed:
 
27 January/ 3 February
 
9am - 1pm
Introduction - Learning to use the camera / Additional information about lighting and audio issues.
2.00pm - 4.30pm
Introduction to computer-assisted editing (terminology, etc.)/ Downloading digital footage into the computer.
28 January/ 4 February
 
9am - 1pm
Participants video project 3-5mins in length. Completion and presentation of video project.
1pm
End of Workshop.
