New Zealand Tourism Research Institute Seminar on Tourism in the South Pacific

Dr. Doorne presented the findings of his research as "GIS as a Planning Support Tool for Community Integrated Tourism Development" to the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute Seminar on Tourism in the South Pacific, organized by Auckland University of Technology on 10 June, 2004.

ICT in Our Life Conference

On 16th June 2004, Dr. Stephen Doorne presented the findings of his research during the ICT in Life Conference. The Conference was organised by the ICT Capacity Building at USP Project and held at the AUSAid Lecture Theatre at USP, Suva but broadcasted live to all USP member countries simultaneously.

"GIS as a Planning Support Tool for Community Integrated Tourism Development" was presented to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), 10th Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Network of Asia-Pacific Education and Training Institutes in Tourism (APETIT): Seminar on Planning for Community Tourism Initiatives in Pacific Island Countries which was held in Suva, Fiji Islands from 10-12 July, 2004.

ICT Utilization in Tourism at University of the South Pacific

On 3rd November 2004, the Project organised a presentation titled ICT Utilization in Tourism at USP. Dr. Doorne and Mr. Pene presented the research findings titled 'Integrating Communities in Tourism Development: Opportunities for GIS as Planning Support Tool'. The main objectives of the presentations were to share the results of the two ICT and Tourism related researches, to obtain feedback from key stakeholders on the research results, and to raise the profile of tourism and ICT related issues

International Symposium on Village Tourism and Hospitality Cultures

"GIS as a Planning Support Tool for Community Integrated Tourism Development: A Pilot Study for Fiji/South Pacific" was also presented at the International Symposium on Village Tourism and Hospitality Cultures, organised by the School of Business and Tourism Management, Yunnan University, P. R. China and the University of Lapland. Yunnan University, Kunming, P. R. China from 27 November - 1 December 2004.
