The University of the South Pacific (USP) was part of a conference organised by the Pacific Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (PARBICA) at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour, Fiji.
The conference, which was from 4-7 September, 2017, aimed to renew professional contacts with other archivists in the Pacific, discuss challenges and possible solutions and build the technical and professional knowledge of its members.

The Records Management office at The University of the South Pacific (USP) hosted a morning tea on August 31, 2017 for Managers and Supervisors to raise awareness of good records management practices and the use of the University’s electronic records management system, HP Records Manager (HPRM).
Mr Jason Flello, Manager Records Management, reminded those present of the importance of records management for informed decision-making.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) hosted a research seminar featuring Assistant Professor Dr Denis Tolkach and his recent collaborative research on ‘Ethics of Chinese & Western Tourists in Hong Kong’.
The seminar was hosted in light of the rising tensions between visitors and residents due to inappropriate tourist behaviour, becoming increasingly observed in destinations around the world particularly rapidly growing tourist markets from Asia.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) held its 2017 Vice-Chancellor’s Forum on Learning and Teaching (L&T) at the Laucala Campus on 31 August, 2017.
In his opening address, Professor Rajesh Chandra, Vice-Chancellor and President welcomed the keynote speaker, Dr Wayne Mackintosh saying USP looked forward to listening to innovative ideas as to how the University can make learning and teaching more sustainable for the future by using Online Education Resources (OERs).

Academics of the School of Engineering and Physics (SEP) recently received an international award for the third best research paper out of 850 papers submitted from across the world.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) community farewelled His Excellency Andrew Jacobs, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific, in a function at the Laucala Campus on 30 August, 2017. H.E. Mr Jacobs has been in the post since February 2013 and is accredited to eleven (11) countries in the region.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, Mr Winston Thompson and Professor Rajesh Chandra, Vice-Chancellor and President, visited Vanuatu as part of their engagement with USP’s Emalus Campus and the Government.
A highlight of this visit was a meeting with the Honorable Charlot Salwai, Prime Minister of Vanuatu and Honorable Jean Pierre Nirua, Minister for Education and Training and their senior officials at the Ramada Resort in Port Vila, on 22 August 2017.

The Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) of The University of the South Pacific has received its 11th international accreditation, which is for the Diploma of Counselling (Level 5) programme.
Accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA), this programme reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities.
