Local Industry Applauds USP’s Final Year Engineering Project - 19 Dec 2016 09:40:38 am
Two students from The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Engineering and Physics (SEP) received a project from a prominent company to work on under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Dr Utkal Mehta.
Peni Jitoko and Epeli Kamahave received a project from Nadi-based Skyward Industry’s Research and Development Department to work on the development of the quad-copter UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) with flight control that will successfully return to home base under fail-safe conditions and perform precision landing on a moving platform autonomously.

A total of 495 students who successfully completed their Foundation studies at The University of the South Pacific (USP) were awarded the Certificate in Foundation Studies at the Japan-Pacific ICT Centre at the Laucala Campus on 9 December 2016. Of this number, 273 were females.
The graduates were from Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu including non-member countries of Korea, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

For the first time ever, The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment (FSTE) will be providing face-to-face science programmes at USP’s Tonga Campus from January 2017.
USP in collaboration with the Government of Tonga and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are providing funding opportunities and easier accessibility to higher education in science.

A total of fifty-one (51) students in the Science Teachers Accelerated Programme (STAP) cohort were conferred with the Bachelor of Science degree by Honorable Henry Puna, Chancellor of USP and the Prime Minister of Cook Islands, during the Alafua Campus graduation ceremony on 25 November 2016.
This number represented a noteworthy eighty-six percent (86%) of the fifty-nine (59) student cohort.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Bachelor of Geospatial Science programme has been awarded the 2016 Spatial Industry Business Association (SIBA) 2016 Pacific Spatial Excellence Award in the People and Community category.
SIBA is a prominent body in Australia that promotes the geospatial industry.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Engineering and Physics (SEP) assisted in the installation of a solar refrigeration project on Yanuca Island in the province of Serua in Fiji.

One hundred and fifty-five (155) students received certificates, diplomas and degrees during The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Emalus Campus graduation ceremony in Vanuatu on 2 December 2016.
The awards were conferred by Honourable Henry Puna, USP Chancellor and Prime Minister of Cook Islands.
