An intensive week-long workshop on e-learning pedagogies and materials development using Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) was conducted at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Teachers Educational Resource and E-learning Centre (TEREC) in Laucala from 23-27 May 2016.
Facilitated by the Commonwealth of Learning’s (COL) Mr John Lesperance and USP’s Dr Shikha Raturi, the workshop saw seven participants from the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), one from USP and one from Tuvalu’s Education ministry.

Oriental Music Meeting With Oceania - 2 Jun 2016 11:58:29 am
The China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO) put on a superb joint performance with Pasifika Voices and Oceania Dance Theatre at the Australia-Pacific Performance Space at The University of the South Pacific (USP) on 26 May 2016.
Staff and students of USP were treated to an evening of traditional and contemporary sounds from China, plus traditional and contemporary songs and dance from Oceania.
As a gift to the audience, the visiting orchestra played a well-known local number, Lomaloma.

Friends and families of The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Oceania Dance Academy gathered to witness a dance recital put on by children on 14 May 2016, at the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies (OCACPS) in USP’s Laucala Campus.
The dance recital saw energetic youngsters moving excitedly to the beat and a large number of family members witnessed the performances which included hip-hop, basic ballet and Pacific contemporary.

Thirty-three students of the 236 sponsored by the Australian Government’s Australia Award Pacific Scholarships (AAPS) will be completing their studies this semester at The University of the South Pacific (USP).

USP begins semester two enrolment - 31 May 2016 10:54:05 am
The University of the South Pacific (USP) has started enrolling students for semester two as classes begin on 11 July 2016.
In semester one of this year, a total of 25,025 students were registered across all campuses at USP’s 12 member countries.
USP Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra said the increasing enrolment numbers is not only pleasing but encouraging as it demonstrates the quality of education that the University offers in Fiji and the region as well.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) opened its Workforce Development Training Unit in Walu Bay, Suva on 27 May 2016.
While officiating at the opening ceremony, Permanent Secretary for Fiji’s Civil Service Bernadette Welsh commended the establishment of the Unit.
“This initiative by the premier University of our region in setting up a Unit that is dedicated to meeting the upskilling needs of the broad workforce is testament to its responsiveness to its member countries,” Ms Welsh stated.

The Chief Executive Officer of the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), Ms Pauline Tang visited The University of the South Pacific (USP) on 26 May 2016.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP), School of Government, Development and International Affairs (SGDIA) launched a book, titled, The New Pacific Diplomacy, edited by Professor Greg Fry and Associate Professor Sandra Tarte.
The book is the product of the Diplomacy and International Affairs programme at the University, which has been running for the past five years and is a culmination of the research undertaken by the School’s postgraduate students, on different aspects of Pacific diplomacy as well as speeches and presentations organised by the School.

Greenlight for USP’s RMI Campus Construction - 27 May 2016 11:42:13 am
The University of the South Pacific (USP) and the Government of the Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI) signed a Deed of Assignment on 26 May 2016.
The signing of the Deed of Assignment enables USP to initiate all renovation works on the piece of land at Long Island, which the RMI Government has allocated for the University to develop its campus.
Speaking during the signing at the RMI Embassy, USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Ruben Zackhras, Ambassador, Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary.

University Students meet Kiribati Minister for Education - 27 May 2016 11:38:35 am
I-Kiribati students studying at tertiary institutions in Fiji hosted a dinner to welcome the new Kiribati Minister for Education, Honourable Alexander Teabo on 21 May 2016.
The event also served as semester one farewell for i-Kiribati students studying at The University of the South Pacific (USP), as they near their final examination.
Speaking at the event organised at the Kiribati High Commission in Suva, Honourable Teabo said that the new Kiribati Government considers it important to visit i-Kiribati students who are studying overseas.
