Forty four (44) Australia Awards Pacific Scholarship (AAPS) students from The University of the South Pacific (USP) attended an end-of-semester awards lunch on 31 October 2017 at USP’s Laucala Campus in Suva.
The students are from Tonga (11), Kiribati (10), Samoa (7), Solomon Islands (6), Tuvalu (4), Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) (3), Republic of Marshall Islands (2) and Vanuatu (1) and varying disciplines from Undergraduate to Masters qualifications.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) hosted a special farewell cocktail for Her Excellency Ms Margaret Twomey, High Commissioner of Australia and His Excellency Mr Mark Ramsden, High Commissioner of New Zealand on 31 October 2017.
Australia and New Zealand have been foundational partners of the University since its inception in 1968 and have contributed to the University’s core budget and projects ever since.

The University of the South Pacific's (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education hosted a Pinktober morning tea in partnership with the Fiji Cancer Society on 31 October 2017.
The function was attended by Dr Giulio Paunga, Vice-President, Estates and Infrastructure and Regional Campuses, Mr Dhiraj Bhartu, Interim Director Human Resources, Ms Susan Sela, Acting Executive Director of Pacific TAFE and her staff.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) is leading by example on disability inclusiveness through the launching of its newly built Disability Resource Centre (DRC) common room on 27 October 2017.
The common room is a large living space that gives students with special needs a study environment as well as a platform for socialising. It consists of a living area, a kitchen and washroom facilities.

In the lead up to its 50th anniversary celebrations in 2018, The University of the South Pacific (USP) launched its special 50th anniversary logo, theme, and website reflecting the developments and achievements of the University since its establishment in 1968.
The launch was held on day two of the University’s 85th Council meeting held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi on 25 October, 2017.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Education (SOEd) held a Postgraduate Evening for its students at the Labasa Campus on 27 October, 2017.
A total of 15 postgraduate students attended the session which was conducted by Professor Govinda Lingam, Head of School, School of Education (SOED); Dr Jeremy Dorovolomo, Chair, SOED Research Committee; and Mr. Adrian Kumar, SOED Postgraduate Officer.

Forty-two (42) students of The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tonga Campus received their degrees, diplomas, and certificates during the graduation ceremony on 21 October, 2017, of which sixty (60) per cent were females.
One student was from Pacific Technical and Further Education, 13 graduated from Foundation Studies, 21 students from undergraduate programmes and seven (7) graduated with Postgraduate qualifications, including 3 with the degree of Masters.

A Pacific Training Programe funded by the United Arab Emirates Pacific Partnership Fund (UAEPPF) was held at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Laucala Campus on 24 October, 2017.
The UAE-PPF is a USD50 million initiative, delivering grant-funded renewable energy (RE) projects to eleven (11) Pacific Island nations including three solar mini grids in Fiji.

The Solomon Islands has become the 10th member country of The University of the South Pacific (USP) to sign the USP Convention.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Records Management Office rolled out the University’s Electronic Document & Records Management system (EDRMS), HP Records Manager to USP Lautoka Campus on October 23, 2017.
This coincided with an awareness raising workshop on good records management practices and the use of the University’s EDRMS.
Ms. Maxine Valentine, Records Officer, reminded those present of the importance of records management for informed decision-making as it would assist the University to meet its legislative and audit requirements.
