The Paris climate conference offered an opportunity for news media outlets to show greater commitment in terms of visibility and resources with more reporters on the ground, a Climate Change Forum was told at The University of the South Pacific on 16 February, 2016.
The comment was made by panelist Debbie Singh, the Communications Specialist for the Pacific Climate Change and Migration Project (PCCM) at the United Nations ESCAP Sub-regional office in Suva.

USP student selected for oceanographic cruise - 16 Feb 2016 11:47:29 am
A Masters student of The University of the South Pacific (USP) has been selected by the Institute of Research Development (IRD) in Noumea, New Caledonia to participate in an oceanographic cruise from 8-22 March 2016.
The purpose of the cruise is to collect oceanographic data to better understand the water properties on the East Coast of New Caledonia.
Shilpa Lal will be assisting in data collection and analysis during the cruise and at the same time, acquire necessary skills from the training provided to conduct her own research.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) has received full international accreditation from the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) for its Certificate III in Commercial Cookery qualification.
Certificate III in Commercial Cookery qualification prepares students with a wide range of specialised skills in food preparation and service in a commercial kitchen. The training involves developing discretion, judgment and sound knowledge of kitchen operations.

An alumnus of The University of the South Pacific (USP) Professor Paresh Narayan has been awarded the 2015 Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman award which acknowledges people of Indian origin, who have made substantial contribution to their discipline and contributed to international philanthropic endeavours and community projects.
Professor Narayan is a Professor of Finance and Co-director of the Centre for Economics and Financial Econometrics Research (CEFER), at the Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.

The University of the South Pacific’s Emalus Campus in Port Vila, Vanuatu had a successful orientation programme for about 200 new students who have enrolled for the 2016 academic year.
The three-day orientation programme was held from 3-5 February 2016.

Orientation week at The University of the South Pacific (USP) has been a huge learning experience for students coming to the University for the first time.
The Vice-Chancellor’s official welcome of new students was held today at the Laucala Campus in Suva. The Chief Guest of the event was the President of Fiji, His Excellency Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote
Toligi Paueli, who will begin her Bachelor of Commerce in International Business and Marketing and Management, described the orientation programme as a stepping stone into the 2016 academic year.
