The Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) of The University of the South Pacific has received its 11th international accreditation, which is for the Diploma of Counselling (Level 5) programme. Accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA), this programme reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. The University of the South Pacific (USP) and Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) have strengthened ties following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 29 August, 2017. Under the MOU, the two (2) educational institutes will take advantage of international cooperation in areas such as academic improvement, research and human resource development. The groundbreaking ceremony the new Solomon Islands Campus of The University of the South Pacific (USP) was successfully held at the KGVI Basketball Court on 24 August, 2017. The Chief Executive Officer of the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), Ms Pauline Tang officially opened The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Nadi Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre on 18 August 2017. About seventy (70) teachers in Tuvalu are attending a two-week Professional Development training hosted by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tuvalu Campus in conjunction with the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Ministry of Education Tuvalu.  Mr Talavai Iona, Permanent Secretary for Education officially opened the workshop on 14 August, 2017.
