Vanuatu In-Country Science Programme Officially Launched - 3 Jul 2018 03:43:04 pm
Students in Vanuatu can now take selected full science degree programmes from The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Emalus campus from semester two under the Vanuatu In-Country Science Programme (VISP) launched on Tuesday 19 June 2018.
The VISP is a cohort teaching model developed by the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment (FSTE) to enable science teachers, mature students and freshman the opportunity to complete their science degree from their local campus.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) farewelled His Excellency Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote after ending a successful term as the University’s 24th Chancellor from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018, during a dinner at the Holiday Inn in Suva on 26 June. The Chancellor is the titular head of the University.
On behalf of the University, the Pro Chancellor and Chair of the USP Council Mr Winston Thompson stated that it had been a pleasure and a privilege working with him and the First Lady Mrs Sarote Konrote during his Chancellorship.

The findings of a Literacy and Leadership Initiative (LALI) overseen by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tonga Campus-based Institute of Education (IOE) has been presented to Hon. Penisimani ‘Epenisa Fifita, the Minister for Education in Tonga.
They were also presented to H. E. The University of the South Pacific (USP) held its first Briefing Session for 2018 with the Pacific Island Countries (PICs) Diplomats, based in Fiji on 18 June 2018.
Its main purpose was to brief the PIC Diplomats and Fiji on the University’s recent achievements and key strategic engagements in the region; provide an update on the development of the new Strategic Plan 2019-2024; and discuss means to fostering better collaboration with member countries for the benefit of the Pacific region.

Five final-year students from The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Journalism Programme have secured international professional attachments as part of their ongoing development and training.
Elizabeth Osifelo from the Solomon Islands, Adi Anaseini Civavonovono and Salote Qalubau from Fiji are expected to leave for a two-week internship in Auckland, New Zealand on 24 June after successfully securing a place in the Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) Media Programme 2018.

The inaugural orientation session for students in the teacher training programmes at The University of the South Pacific (USP), organised by the School of Education (SOEd) from 11-12 June 2018 turned out to be another success.
