The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Education (SOEd) hosted a postgraduate symposium for its students based at Suva, Fiji, on from 28 September - 1 October, 2018.
Professor Govinda Lingam, Head of the SOEd addressed thesis candidates on the importance of driving their own learning and that supervisors should only act as a guide to them.
He emphasised the need to seek advice from others, read a lot, and take writing their thesis very seriously.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) is pleased with the support of the United Kingdom Government on the Pacific’s maritime challenges.
Positive sentiments were expressed by Professor Derrick Armstrong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research & International, at a morning tea hosted by the British High Commissioner, Her Excellency Melanie Hopkins at her residence in Suva, on 28 September 2018.

Pacific Island citizens will benefit from improved livelihoods and opportunities through skills development thanks to a partnership signed between The University of the South Pacific (USP) and the Australian Government supported Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) at the USP Laucala Campus on Friday 21 September 2018.
The partnership marks the first in a new approach APTC is taking to its engagement with TVET institutions and other partners across the region. A total of ninety-five (95) students from Funafuti Primary School were awarded with certificates for completing a two-weeklong Literacy programme at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tuvalu Campus on 31 August 2018.
Dr. Rosiana Lagi, USP Tuvalu Campus Director, initiated the programme, which was an outcome of a research, carried out by Certificate in Teaching students at the Tuvalu Campus.

More than 500 students from The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) were awarded certificates, diplomas and degrees at the National Gymnasium on 21 September 2018.
This was the third ceremony for the second graduation of 2018 for the Laucala Campus. The first two graduations – for the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment and Pacific and Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) in the morning and Faculty of Arts, Law and Education in the afternoon, were held in two separate ceremonies on 20 September 2018.

Arti Devi is a fine example of sheer determination, courage and sacrifice despite her disability.
In fact, if anything, she has used her disability to climb heights and soar.

Graduates of The University of the South Pacific (USP) were challenged to embrace failure, grow and learn from it during their graduation ceremony at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala on 20 September 2018.
Ms Turang Teuea from Kiribati, who graduated with a Masters degree, encouraged fellow graduates never to let failure stop them from achieving their goals.
“It is important to remember in this life that whenever we set a goal, we set it not only for ourselves, but for our family, our children, our community, and our country,” he stated.
