Nauru Government launches USP 50th Anniversary song - 23 May 2018 01:20:03 pm
The Government of Nauru has officially launched a song for The University of the South Pacific (USP) in commemoration of the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Minister for Education of Nauru, Honourable Charmaine Scotty officially launched the song, in the Nauruan language as part of a dinner hosted by the Ministry for USP Council members and staff on 22 May 2018 in Yaren District.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) through its Pacific Centre for Economic Policy & Modelling in conjunction with World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) hosted a public lecture on WTO & its Relevance to Pacific Island Countries. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Roberto Azevedo, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation at Laucala Campus and live-streamed to the region on 21 May 2018.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Education (SOEd) hosted over 20 Suva Secondary School Principals and school representatives for a Practicum Dialogue on 16 May 2018.
In his opening remarks, Professor Govinda Lingam, Head of the SOEd stressed the importance of healthy and strong partnerships with all relevant stakeholders like School Heads and Associate Teachers, Teacher Educators and student teachers to ensure a meaningful and rewarding practicum experience.

Niue has become the 12th and final member country of The University of the South Pacific (USP) to sign the USP Convention.
The Minister for Education of Niue Honorable Billy Talagi, signed the Convention on behalf of the Niue Government during the 86th USP Council meeting on 22 May 2018.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) new Campus in Nauru’s Yaren District was officially opened by His Excellency David Adeang, the Acting President of Nauru on 21 May 2018.
The opening of the new Nauru Campus was ahead of the University’s 86th Council Meeting from 22 – 23 May 2018. More than 65 business executives successfully completed the Executive Coaching and Leadership Workshop organised by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Graduate School of Business at the Statham Campus on 1-4 May 2018.
Course coordinator, Mr. Gerard O’ Donovan, said coaching and leadership is an important aspect of leadership and the workshop’s overall aim was to support and further promote the notion that all the stakeholders have an important role to play while providing coaching and leadership in organisations.

USP Student awarded Best Paper at International Meet - 21 May 2018 11:27:23 am
A Tuvaluan PhD student from The University of the South Pacific (USP) was awarded the Best Paper along with a complementary monetary prize at the First Symposium of the International Society for Tropical Root Crops – Pacific Branch (ISTRC-PB), held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, Fiji from 24-27 April 2018.
The award is a reward for Taniela Kepa Siose’s collective assiduous work, his supervisors and colleagues at the Soil Science Department as well as the support from the SAFT Head of School.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) launched its inaugural Certificate of Competence programme at the Workforce Development Training Unit (WDTU) in Suva on 14 May 2018.
The Certificate of Competence programme is a new approach by the institution to align business results with an individual’s capacity and capability to deliver those results.
Mr. Hasmukh lal, Pacific TAFE Executive Director said that what really matters is “the individual outputs or accomplishments that lead to the achievement of organisational goals".

The 86th Council meeting of The University of the South Pacific (USP) will be held at USP’s Nauru Campus in Yaren District from 22 - 23 May 2018.
USP Council is the highest decision-making body of the University, and meets twice a year to discuss the affairs of the University.
