The University of the South Pacific (USP) began its Orientation Week 2019 with an official launch by Honourable Jone Usamate, Minster for Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services at the Laucala Campus, this morning, 28 January. 1.4 million Upgrade for USP Library - 28 Jan 2019 03:20:49 pm
The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Pal Ahluwalia officially opened the University’s Library Learning Commons on 24 January 2019. The Learning Commons is located on Level A of the University Library and has newly renovated interactive spaces for students to study. It supports a holistic approach to academic support for students, through a more flexible learning environment that enables an efficient and effective, coordinated and collaborative approach to learning and teaching.  ... Deputy Head of School of Marine Studies of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Dr Marta Ferreira presented the first results on Microplastic pollution in Fiji’s coastal environment at the International Conference on Plastics in the Marine Environment held in Singapore in December last year. Dr Marta Ferreira showed the results of the ongoing research conducted by the Marine Pollution and Toxicology team at the School of Marine Studies. This research has shown the presence of Microplastics in water, sediments and fish around coastal area in Suva, Fiji. ... More »


Tuvalu teachers to complete certificate training - 23 Jan 2019 12:31:43 pm
Thirty-seven (37) teachers who are in the Certificate in Teaching Primary cohort at The University of the South Pacific’s Tuvalu Campus will complete their second last course for their programme during the 2018 summer flexi. Dr. Raghuwaiya Krishna, a Senior Lecturer with the School of Education (SOEd) will be teaching this cohort, which comprises of teachers who are teaching in eight outer islands of Tuvalu. Tuvalu Campus engages primary school students - 23 Jan 2019 12:15:43 pm
The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tuvalu Campus was recently engaged in a new reading programme for Tuvalu’s primary school students. Dr. Rosiana Lagi, Tuvalu Campus Director confirmed that young prospective students visited the Campus requesting to learn to improve their reading during the Christmas school holidays.  Dr. Lagi said the books were donated by relatives of the children in New Zealand and she willingly used her own time to read to the enthusiastic youngsters.  “An after-school reading prog... $84 million Australia-USP Partnership Announced - 22 Jan 2019 10:50:43 am
The Honourable Scott Morrison MP, Prime Minister of Australia announced a new partnership of $84 million between Australia and The University of the South Pacific (USP) for the next six (6) years. The announcement was made as part of Prime Minister Morrison’s address at the University’s Laucala Campus on 18 January 2019. USP Emeritus Professor receives Life time Research Award - 21 Jan 2019 09:33:24 am
Emeritus Professor at The University of the South Pacific (USP) Subramaniam Sotheeswaran recently received a Life Time Research Award from the Asian Symposium for Medicinal Plants, Spices and other Natural Products (ASOMPS XVI) at its International Conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Professor Sotheeswaran joined the USP in January 1986 and worked on the plant, kava (Piper methysticum), used by the local people to make a relaxing drink.
