Alafua Campus celebrates Samoa Independence - 13 Jun 2017 12:51:50 pm
Staff and students of The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Alafua Campus joined the people of Samoa and dignitaries and ambassadors from around the world to celebrate Samoa’s 55th year of Independence on 1 June 2017.
More than 70 staff and students of the Alafua Campus were at the Government Building from as early as 4am to join Government ministries, schools and organisations in the March Past to observe the first former colony in the Pacific to be given right to form its own government.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Bachelor of Arts, Social Work major has been accredited by the Australian Community Works Association (ACWA).
ACWA aims to advance the profession of community work and set, strengthen and provide the educational, professional and ethical standards essential for exemplary community work practice.

To uphold the aspiration of the UN Oceans Conference, there needs to be more than just business-as-usual and a demonstration of committed leadership and excellence in scientific research, to promote the health of our ocean for our people, planet and prosperity.

USP Records office celebrates International Archives Day 2017 - 12 Jun 2017 02:21:23 pm
The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Records Management office celebrated International Archives Day 2017 on Friday, 9 June by sorting out records older than the University, to ensure their preservation and longevity.
Staff spent the day sorting and cleaning records that have been deposited from many parts of the University and that have sat relatively untouched since they arrived. The building of new racks and shelving were a major feature of the day’s activities.

World Bank Funded Vanuatu REDD+ SESA Project awarded to IAS - 12 Jun 2017 02:19:26 pm
The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Institute of Applied Sciences (IAS) was awarded the Vanuatu Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) project by the Government of Vanuatu and World Bank in March 2017.
This follows the Fiji REDD+ SESA project awarded to IAS in September 2016. Dr Johann Poinapen, the Director of IAS, attributed the Vanuatu SESA project award to the positive feedback from World Bank in the successful implementation of the Fiji SESA currently underway.

The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra said the University straddles an area of 33 million square kilometres so whatever happens to the oceans, happens to its member countries and ultimately, the University.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) has reaffirmed its commitment towards the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources by announcing a USP-Norway Joint Chair in Ocean studies and a list of voluntary commitments by USP during the Norwegian reception on 7 June 2017 at Hotel Millennium in New York.

The Pacific Ocean is not just important to the Pacific Islands, it is a matter of survival and to a dignified existence.
