USP Invests $1.3m in Nadi Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre - 21 Aug 2017 03:17:35 pm
The Chief Executive Officer of the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), Ms Pauline Tang officially opened The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Nadi Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre on 18 August 2017.
The Centre, which is worth FJ$1.3m will conduct training for Certificates III and IV in Commercial Cookery, Certificate III in Patisserie and Certificate IV in Hospitality Operations offered through the Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE).

USP Tuvalu hosts Professional Training for Teachers - 18 Aug 2017 04:00:10 pm
About seventy (70) teachers in Tuvalu are attending a two-week Professional Development training hosted by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tuvalu Campus in conjunction with the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Ministry of Education Tuvalu.
Mr Talavai Iona, Permanent Secretary for Education officially opened the workshop on 14 August, 2017. He highlighted the significance of professional development in the teaching profession and how Tuvalu’s Ministry of Education is supporting the upskilling of teachers so that quality education is provided to the students and the community.

Fiji signs USP Convention - 18 Aug 2017 11:10:56 am
The Fiji Government signed the USP Convention at The University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus on 17 August, 2017.
The USP Convention is an agreement between member countries of the University, aimed at legally embedding it in member countries, and supplementing the University’s founding legal instruments of the Royal Charter and Statutes.
Mr Winston Thompson, Pro-Chancellor of USP, said today’s signing is indeed a major milestone for Fiji “being the home of the University”.

The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Mr. Zhang Ping visited The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Confucius Institute at the Laucala Campus on 14 August, 2017.
In her presentation, Confucius Institute Chinese Director Dr Hui Yang explained that the Institute is under the School of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM) in the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE).

The 24th Chancellor of The University of the South Pacific (USP) is the President of Fiji His Excellency Major General (Ret'd) Jioji Konusi Konrote who has been appointed to serve in the role from 1 July 2017 for a term of one year.
H.E Konrote will be formally installed during USP’s Laucala graduation ceremony on 22 September, 2017. The Chancellor is the titular head of USP, who confers the qualifications of the University.

The Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP) ICT Working Group (WG) met at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Laucala Campus in Suva on 15 August, 2017.
