The University of the South Pacific (USP) will soon host the Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Universities Research Network (PIURN) following the successful conclusion of the PIURN Board Meeting in Nadi from 30 – 31 October 2017. PIURN is the Pacific Islands Universities Research Network whose members are all the universities in the Pacific region excluding Australia and New Zealand. SOEd to deliver Untrained Teachers Project in Fiji - 15 Nov 2017 09:15:09 am
The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Education (SOEd) will commence the Untrained Teachers project on 27 November, 2017 in order to improve the quality of education of children in Fiji. This follows a successful meeting between a team of senior staff from SOEd led by Professor Govinda Lingam, Head of School with officials from Fiji’s Ministry Education (MOE) led by Mr Hem Chand, the Director Primary Education (DPE). The University of the South Pacific (USP)-based Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII) has been awarded an Integrity Initiative of Excellence award from Transparency International Papua New Guinea (TIPNG) for its contribution to strengthening institutional transparency. USP has leveraged the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) after signing a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) and a Student Exchange Agreement with the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (UHM) on 8 November 2017. The MOU was a more general agreement, which fosters a friendly relationship through mutual cooperation in areas of learning, teaching and research between USP and UHM. The Country Director for the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP), Mr Anthony Freeman paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra on 7 November 2017. A study by The University of the South Pacific (USP) into the state of Asia-Pacific ethnic print media in the digital media age has won the Best Research Paper award at an international conference in Singapore recently.
