Over the last decade the region has experienced considerable liberalisation and entry of new service providers in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) was part of a two-day Government roadshow held at Natadra District School grounds in Saqani, Cakaudrove Province on Fiji’s second largest island of Vanua Levu from 22-23 June, 2017.
Dr Samuela Bogitini, USP Campus Director, two staff from the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment and Savusavu Centre Supervisor joined government officials and the Prime Minister Honourable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama at the roadshow to showcase USP’s programmes and courses.

About 30 new students of The University of the South Pacific attended the Success @ USP programme at its Tuvalu Campus from 19-20th July.
Dr Rosiana Lagi, Tuvalu Campus Director said it was a Success @ USP programme with a difference because for the first time parents and representatives from Tuvalu’s Ministry of Education, USP’s education partner, were also present at the official opening.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) FJ$9.3million 11th Halls of Residence at its Laucala Campus was opened by Honourable Jone Usamate, Fiji’s Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations on 17 July, 2017.
The 11th Hall was financed through a loan of F$7.5 million from the Fiji National Provident Fund and $1.8 million from Australian Pacific Technical College.

The provision of renewable energy-based refrigeration systems by The University of the South Pacific (USP) in two remote fishing communities in Fiji have brought income-generation potential and smiles to their faces.
Project coordinator Dr Atul Raturi acknowledged the French Pacific Fund which enabled the Sustainable Energy for Sustainable Development project to install these systems for the villagers of Tavuki in Kadavu and Vesi on Mali Island in Macuata, Vanua Levu.

USP extends lecture capture to Samoa & Vanuatu - 14 Jul 2017 10:11:54 am
The University of the South Pacific (USP) has successfully installed an extension of the lecture capture recording system at its Alafua Campus in Samoa and Emalus Campus in Vanuatu respectively.
At Emalus, installation works began on Saturday 8 July which required the replacing of analogue switches with digital ones, Digital Power Digital Unit, Digital Control Panel and Encoder.
Configuration and testing have also been carried out successfully after which staff have been trained for its use.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) held its first briefing session with the Pacific Island Countries (PICs) diplomats, based in Fiji on 13 July 2017 at the Japan-Pacific ICT Centre at the Laucala Campus.

The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Association of The University of the South Pacific Staff (AUSPS) for setting the new salary structure for Professional Staff and the implementation of the Job Evaluation, which will see the completion of the De-linking exercise.
In 2010, AUSPS signed an agreement with the University Management to officially delink professional staff remuneration from academic remuneration.
