The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra spoke on Fiji’s skills position in relation to business outsourcing to the Fiji Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Mission on 26 July 2016 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Lautoka Campus 2016 Open Day concluded on a high note on 29 July 2016. USP Lautoka Campus Director, Dr Pramila Devi said the event this year was a huge success with 24 schools participating from the Western Division and a total number of 2860 students visiting the Campus. “The students went through the displays by the three faculties of the University plus extensive information sessions from the Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) and the College of Foundation Studies (CFS),” Dr Devi said. ... The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) recently welcomed a new staff member, Senior Lecturer, Dr Alexander Trupp who joins the University from Mahidol University, Thailand. A final year Journalism student of The University of the South Pacific (USP) is back in the country after undergoing a two-week internship programme organised and sponsored by the Pacific Corporation Foundation (PCF) in New Zealand. Sonal Singh, majoring in Journalism as part of his Bachelor of Arts degree at USP, worked at a number of media organisations under the internship, including Pacific Media Network, Maori Television, Pacific Media Centre, Tiki Lounge, NZ Herald, TVNZ and Sun Pix. The Pro-Chancellor Winston Thompson and Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra   visited   Vanuatu from 29 July to attend celebrations to mark the country's 36th independence anniversary. Vanuatu gained political independence on July 30th 1980. Thousands of students attend USP Open Day 2016 - 29 Jul 2016 04:31:20 pm
Thousands of students came to The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Laucala Campus in Suva during its Open Day 2016 on 29 July. A total of 80 schools with close to 8000 students, visited the Laucala Campus, including from Suva, Nausori, Lautoka, Nadi, Ba, Tavua, Nadroga, Navosa, Ra, Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata. Schools from the maritime zone also attended including from the Yasawa Group and the Eastern Division comprising of Cicia High School in the Lau group, Rotuma High and Levuka Public School. 17 schools visited the Lautoka Campus and 18 schools visited the Labasa Campus respectively.  ... The University of the South Pacific’s (USP), School of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences (SCIMS) launched the ‘Microsoft’s Student Accelerator Programme’ on 21 July 2016. The Programme will facilitate various on-campus events for students like certifications, application development workshops, coding competitions, online courses and webinars (web seminars). A week-long weaving workshop from 4 to 8 July at The University of the South Pacific (USP) proved successful with participants from a wide cross-section of the community. In collaboration with Macquarie University, the Fiji Museum and Fiji Arts Council, the workshop is part of a larger research project on weaving in Fiji that has been approved by the Fiji’s i-Taukei Affairs Ministry. Palau will host the 13th Pacific Public Service Commissioners’ Conference (PPSCC) from 2 to 4 August 2016. According to a statement from the Palau Ministry of Finance, the annual conference is organised by the ministry’s Bureau of Public Service System in collaboration with The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Island Centre for Public Administration (PICPA).
