The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) hosted an ‘Alumni Open Evening Event’ recently to bring together former undergraduate students with current STHM staff members and postgraduate students.
In his welcome address, Dr. Alexander Trupp, Senior Lecturer and leader of the postgraduate programmes at STHM, highlighted the ever-growing significance of tourism and hospitality studies for the academia as well as the tourism industry, especially in the South Pacific context.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) is gearing up for the re-introduction of the Tablet Learning Project (TLP) in the Pacific region from Semester 1, 2017.
After the success of TLP in 2013, the University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra has approved free distribution of almost 500 tablets to selected students in selected USP campuses.

The University of the South Pacific’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) is further strengthening its collaborative efforts with its tourism stakeholders in the Solomon Islands as part of its continued efforts to build up its teaching, research consulting and training platform.
The School recently undertook a series of consultations with key partners in the public and private sector in Honiara to progress internship opportunities for its Solomon Island students. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The University of the South Pacific (USP), Mainstreaming of Rural Development Innovation (MORDI) Tonga Trust and Tonga’s Nishi Trading, was signed on 19 December 2016.
The MOU will establish a collaborative relationship by and among MORDI, USP, and Nishi Trading where the three institutions can exchange information to seek and implement programmes and activities of mutual interest.

Local Industry Applauds USP’s Final Year Engineering Project - 19 Dec 2016 09:40:38 am
Two students from The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Engineering and Physics (SEP) received a project from a prominent company to work on under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Dr Utkal Mehta.
Peni Jitoko and Epeli Kamahave received a project from Nadi-based Skyward Industry’s Research and Development Department to work on the development of the quad-copter UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) with flight control that will successfully return to home base under fail-safe conditions and perform precision landing on a moving platform autonomously.

A total of 495 students who successfully completed their Foundation studies at The University of the South Pacific (USP) were awarded the Certificate in Foundation Studies at the Japan-Pacific ICT Centre at the Laucala Campus on 9 December 2016. Of this number, 273 were females.
The graduates were from Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu including non-member countries of Korea, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

For the first time ever, The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment (FSTE) will be providing face-to-face science programmes at USP’s Tonga Campus from January 2017.
USP in collaboration with the Government of Tonga and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are providing funding opportunities and easier accessibility to higher education in science.

51 students graduate from STAP, Samoa - 9 Dec 2016 03:50:23 pm
A total of fifty-one (51) students in the Science Teachers Accelerated Programme (STAP) cohort were conferred with the Bachelor of Science degree by Honorable Henry Puna, Chancellor of USP and the Prime Minister of Cook Islands, during the Alafua Campus graduation ceremony on 25 November 2016.
This number represented a noteworthy eighty-six percent (86%) of the fifty-nine (59) student cohort.
