South Pacific and United Kingdom (UK) marine science collaboration has been further strengthened with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the UK Government’s Centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) and The University of the South Pacific (USP) at the University’s Emalus Campus in Port Vila, Vanuatu on 24 August 2016.
The agreement will explore a range of different partnership opportunities in the field of marine science.

Journalism students at The University of the South Pacific (USP) got the opportunity to listen to USP Journalism alumni on “what it takes to succeed as a journalism student and as a professional in the workplace” as part of the 7th Wansolwara Toks Series.
The alumni included Ms Dawn Gibson, Mr Ravai Vafo'ou and Mr Tevita Vuibau. All three have built successful careers and stand out as USP alumni who are making a contribution both in Fiji and the region.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) hosted the 2016 Vice-Chancellor’s Forum on Learning & Teaching at the Laucala Campus on 1 September.
In officially opening it, Professor Richard Coll, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Learning, Teaching and Student Services (LTSS) for USP said the Forum is an ongoing regular event in the University’s academic calendar.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Certificate III in Community Development programme has been accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).
The programme is offered by USP’s Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE), which provides skills based qualifications for employment opportunities at an entry and para professional levels, pathways for higher studies and career advancement for working people.

Fiji’s Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts and National Archives of Fiji Honourable Dr Mahendra Reddy officially launched The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) 2016 Strategic Research Themes project at the Laucala campus on 29 August 2016.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) formally installed Prime Minister of Cook Islands Honourable Henry Puna as the 23rd Chancellor of the University at the Vodafone Arena during the Laucala Campus graduation ceremony on 26 August 2016.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pasifika Voices based at the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies (OCACPS) have secured the official contract of providing a choir for the soundtrack of the much anticipated Hollywood Disney Animation, Moana.
Moana is an upcoming 2016 American 3D computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, the 56th film in Disney's animated features canon, and is being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker.
