The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific, Professor Rajesh Chandra launched a commemorative book in celebration of the University’s 50th Anniversary on 29 October 2018. The book, which is entitled “A University for the Pacific, 50 Years of USP”, chronicles the journey of this unique institution that has contributed a lot to the development of its member countries. The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Accounting and Finance (SOAF) and the Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) hosted a lecture at the Laucala Campus on 24 October 2018 in memory of the late Professor Michael White. Dr Nacanieli Rika, FBE Associate Dean Planning and Quality, stated that Professor White, fondly known as Mick was highly regarded for his academic and professional contributions, particularly in the areas of accounting regulation, corporate governance and financial reporting. 94 students graduate from USP Tonga Campus - 26 Oct 2018 10:14:28 am
A total of ninety-four (94) students graduated at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tonga Campus on 19 October 2018. The ceremony was officiated by the University’s 25th Chancellor, His Excellency Taneti Maamau, the President of the Republic of Kiribati, who conferred the degrees, diplomas and certificates and attended by Mr Winston Thompson, Pro Chancellor of USP; Professor Richard Coll, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Learning, Teaching & Student Services (LTSS); and USP Tonga Campus staff. 87 students graduate from USP Cook Islands Campus - 26 Oct 2018 09:44:14 am
A total of eighty-seven (87) students graduated at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Cook Islands Campus graduation in Rarotonga on 24 October 2018. Of this number, forty-seven (47) graduates were presented to the Chancellor, having completed their awards since the last in-country graduation in October 2015. Nineteen (19) of the graduating students received double awards – the Graduate Certificate in Public Administration and the Post Graduate Diploma in Commerce. As part of the Library’s activities celebrating the University’s 50th anniversary, the Library made a contribution to the Fiji Library Association (FLA) when it handed over a cheque of FJD5398 on 18 October 2018 at a gathering of Library staff and FLA Executives at the University’s Laucala Campus. The donation came from the proceeds from a Quiz Night organised by USP Library on 6 September. Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Harry and Megan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave a standing ovation for the performance by The University of the South Pacific’s  (USP) Oceania Dance Theatre and Pasifika Voices during their visit at the Laucala Campus on 24 October, 2018. The Royal couple are on an official tour of the Pacific region to Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand and visited USP as part of their state visit to Fiji. It is not every day that one gets to interact with royalty so for the two students of The University of the South Pacific (USP) Elisha Bano and Elvis Kumar, it was an opportunity that was just too good to be missed. The University of the South Pacific (USP), Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) facilitated the book launch of Dr. Subhash Appana and Professor Malcolm Abbott titled Race, Military Coups and Economic Reforms Fiji: 1987 to 2006 on the 24 October at the Pacific Fusion Restaurant at USP Laucala Campus. The University of the South Pacific (USP) Library received two books covering subjects of HIV & AIDS and Women in Indenture by Professor Prem Misir, the newly appointed Pro Vice Chancellor for the Solomon Islands Campus and Professor of the School of Public Health, on 24 October 2018. “The book on HIV & AIDS Knowledge & Stigma in Guyana is the outcome of research on the awareness of the subject in high schools in the Caribbean focusing on adolescents and young people because `they are globally the largest group that are at the great risk of contracting HIV,” said Professor Misir....
