USP Vice-Chancellor Honoured at the 10th Confucius Institute Conference

USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra with the Director General of Hanban, Madam Xu Lin.

The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra was among the recipients of the prestigious Confucius Institute awards that were presented at the Opening Ceremony of the 10th Global Confucius Institute Conference in Shanghai on 6 December 2015.

The awards were presented by Madam Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China and Chair of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). 

Professor Chandra received the “Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award” in recognition of his strong support and leadership of the CI-USP.

The citation for the award referred to his personal involvement in many aspects of the development of the Confucius Institute and classrooms in a number of USP’s member countries.

Professor Chandra is involved in the Institute’s major activities and provides valuable guidance in its future development.

His support enhances its visibility and influence, and has enabled the Institute to build a strong platform for education and cultural exchanges to promote mutual understanding and friendship and long lasting bridges of friendship between the people of China and the Pacific.

Other awards were given for the “Confucius Institute of the Year”, “Confucius Classroom of the Year”, “Outstanding Confucius Institute Chinese Partner” and “Model Confucius Institutes."
