The University of the South Pacific Staff Football Club (USPSFC) team added another milestone achievement to its ranks when it defeated the USP Labasa Campus team by 2-1 in a friendly fixture at the Gurunanak Khalsa College Grounds in Labasa on 18 June 2016.

This was the club’s first ever tour to the Northern Division and the team played their hearts out representing the USP Laucala Community.

Goals for USPSFC were scored by Mr Praveen Prasad of the Development, Marketing, Communications and Alumni (DMCA) office and Mr Benjamin Naidu of School of Engineering.

The USPSFC team comprises young and experienced players from different departments and hierarchy’s within the University.

USPSFC President Mr Navneel Naidu said that “this was our second tour for the club and going to the Northern Division was our priority this year. This is one of the many ways in which we can bind our staff in a common activity in the name of football upholding the name of the University at the highest level. It was indeed a very good outing for the boys and an ideal build up as we head into the knockout stages of the Suva Business House Soccer League”

The club is planning to tour Vanuatu in 2017 to play a test match against the Emalus Campus staff team. Fundraising for 2017 will begin as early as July this year.

This tour was cordially organised by USPSFC and counterparts from the Labasa Campus to foster better relations between both the campuses.

Mr Naidu said the team would like to sincerely thank the Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra, Labasa Campus Student Association, USP Labasa Campus staff, kind donors and well-wishers who made this tour a successful one.
