The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education launched its first face-to-face cohort for two of its programmes at the University’s Lautoka Campus on 28 April, 2017.
Cohort based delivery is a creative way to deliver the whole programme outside the semester based delivery with the same learning outcomes but in a faster and a flexible way.
The programmes, Professional Diploma in Business Management and Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care have twenty-five (25) and twenty-two (22) students respectively.
Present at the launch were the cohort students, prospective students, Lautoka Campus Advisory Board, Lautoka Campus staff and the business community.
Mr Hasmukh Lal, Pacific TAFE Director launched the face-to-face cohorts and congratulated Lautoka Campus on its achievement of three (3) cohorts so far.
In March this year, Pacific TAFE launched the cohort-based Diploma in Business Management programme at Shangri-La Fijian Resort.
Mr Lal highlighted the importance of upskilling employee qualification to become the game changer in competitive business environment as well as gain organisational competitive advantage through human resources development.
The Director informed the guests that Pacific TAFE is one of the fastest growing departments at USP with increasing enrolments every year.
While talking about the importance of international accreditation and labour mobility to the Pacific Islands, Mr Lal said that Pacific TAFE has achieved a total of seven (7) international accreditations and ten (10) programmes have been accredited by Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC).
In addition to this, Pacific TAFE has become the first offshore provider to gain institutional accreditation as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
The Professional Diploma in Business Management equips graduates with a wide range of business. It comprises business skills, interpersonal and communication skills, critical problem solving skills, decision-making skills, ability to recognise ethical and cultural issues and to work independently and within a team environment.
The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care programme is accredited by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
This qualification broadens students’ knowledge in early childhood education and care and prepares students with vital skills and knowledge that relate to health; wellbeing and safety; special needs; supporting young children’s behaviour; children’s rights; child protection as well as skills in planning developmentally appropriate programmes and managing an early childhood education and care centre within a diverse environment.
