The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Emalus Campus-based Confucius Classroom received a set of office equipment from the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Port Vila, Vanuatu on 3 November, 2017.

In his speech, His Excellency Liu Quan, Chinese Ambassador said, “I am really delighted to be present for this donation of air conditioners and computers to CI, USP in Vanuatu,” he noted.

“The relationship between USP and the Chinese Embassy is excellent.  I remember I came here several times before and now I can say that our relationship with USP has matured and in good shape,” Ambassador Liu Quan said.

Mr Ruben Markward, Emalus Campus Director expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador for the kind donation.

He spoke highly of Ambassador Liu Quan’s continuous assistance to the development of USP’s Emalus Campus, not only towards the Confucius Classroom but the entire Campus as well.

Mr Markward also emphasised the strong relationship that exists between USP Emalus Campus and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

He attributed the strengthening of the relationship and cooperation between the Chinese Embassy in Port Vila and the USP Emalus Campus to the understanding and the personality of Ambassador Liu Quan.

The Ambassador further stated that the Chinese Embassy receives great support from USP’s Management, especially the Campus Manager Mr Ruben Markward, with regards to the Confucius Classroom.

Ambassador Liu Quan said the relationship could expand, not only in terms of rooms but also in human resource.  He said that people in Vanuatu have realised that learning mandarin language is important as well as it is conducive to people’s long term career.

“After 35 years our relationship is now mature.  Our mutual trust and understanding has been enhanced. I understand that USP is now the only university branch in Vanuatu and it is the cradle of intellectuals and leaders for this country,” the Chinese Ambassador said.

The office equipment will greatly assist in improving the learning environment of the Confucius Classroom at the USP Emalus Campus.  The donation consisted of two sets of desktops and air conditions valued at 800,000 Vatu.
