USP Alumni receives Prestigious Award at International Conference

Associate Professor Sumit Lodhia with Dr Peni Fukofuka of the USP’s School of Accounting and Finance.

An alumnus of The University of the South Pacific (USP) was recognised at the 16th Annual Conference of the Australasian Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (A-CSEAR) which concluded in Nadi, Fiji on 9 December, 2017.

Associate Professor Sumit Lodhia, was inducted into the A-CSEAR Hall of Fame in recognition of his leadership and sustained research contributions to social and environmental accounting. He has contributed significantly to the A-CSEAR community through teaching, mentoring, publishing and supervising as well as reviewing journal articles and editing academic journals.

In receiving the award, Associate Prof. Lodhia acknowledged the assistance of various USP academics in shaping his initial career and attributed his success to the values and principles instilled in him while growing up in Fiji.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) at USP, he worked as a tutor at USP’s School of Accounting and Finance (SOAF) from 1998 to 2000 before migrating to Australia where he completed his PhD at the Australian National University.

Dr Nacanieli Rika, Acting Head of SOAF said the School was delighted to see its graduates having such an impact in accounting research and scholarship since their achievements reflect the quality of the accounting programme at USP.

Associate Professor Lodhia now serves as Director of the Centre for Sustainability Governance (CSG) at the University of South Australia, where he leads research focused on sustainability accounting, reporting, and governance.

He has published over fifty (50) articles in a range of prestigious refereed journals and is a member of the Editorial Board of several international journals.

He has also been awarded grants from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ), Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and CPA Australia, to support and continue his industry relevant research.
