IAS Laboratory Technicians with the Trainer David Pearce from (L - R): Rosie K, Jeremaia K, David P (Trainer), Ana T and Jaya B.
The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Institute of Applied Science (IAS) Laboratory Services recently held a training for its technicians on the proper use of various instruments with key emphasis on Gas Chromatography (GC).
The training was conducted by Mr. David Pearce, Service Engineer from Perkin Elmer, Sydney, Australia and focused on the maintenance and trouble-shooting of the GC, one of the most commonly used chromatography methods in analytical chemistry for separating and analysing compounds.
The proper maintenance of other Perkin Elmer instruments such as Ultraviolet and Visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), and Inductively Coupled Plasma with Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) were also covered and specific training was provided to Technicians with an opportunity to learn new techniques using these equipment.
The IAS Laboratory Services is an internationally accredited laboratory that continuously invests in the upgrading of staff skills and providing IAS customers with reliable Laboratory results.
Dr Johann Poinapen, IAS Director said that such training increases the confidence of Laboratory staff and body of knowledge in handling and maintaining these sophisticated equipment in an efficient manner.
