As an institute developing human resources in the region, The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) is proud to sponsor FJD 10,000 for the 2018 Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) National Convention which will be held from 14 – 15 September 2018.
The announcement was made by Professor Richard Coll, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Learning Teaching and Student Services, who presented the cheque to Mr Kameli Batiweti, President of FHRI at the Nadi Tourism and Hospitality Training Centre on 1 June 2018.
USP’s Pacific TAFE also gave $10,000 sponsorship last year as they believe that the University’s enthusiasm for supporting FHRI was because of the key role played by both FHRI and USP in human resources development.
While presenting the cheque, Mr Hasmukh Lal, Executive Director, Pacific TAFE said Industry and academia need ongoing collaboration and dialogue to better prepare graduates for the workforce.
“Industries have been helping USP’s Pacific TAFE in programme development, continuous improvements, work placements, mentoring, sponsorship and accreditations. This sponsorship is a reciprocal gesture and ongoing engagement with FHRI,” Mr Lal said.
Mr Kameli Batiweti, President of FHRI said that the Institute welcomes the financial sponsorship for the upcoming National FHRI Convention.
He added that the FHRI Executive Committee are putting together an exciting programme for the Convention which will include reputable local and international speakers.
He noted that last year’s convention had over 250 participants and Pacific TAFE’s support will surely boost the team’s preparation for this year.
Mr Batiweti said it is important that the Institute strengthens its partnership with USP Pacific TAFE as this is one of the few professional institutions in Fiji that offer internationally accredited and recognised programmes in HR which FHRI’s members could benefit from.
“FHRI is also seeking to encourage current students to build their network and have more exposure by joining us,” he said.
