“Our students are our priority here at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) and we endeavour to ensure our students receive the best knowledge and skills from the most experienced and qualified staff”,
This was the message by Mr Hasmukh Lal, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific TAFE, while addressing students at orientation day.
More than 600 students took advantage of the Pacific TAFE orientation at the Laucala Campus on 31 January 2019.
The orientation was conducted in two (2) sessions, a daytime and an evening session, to accommodate working students.
In his official address, the CEO welcomed new students and congratulated them for securing a place at the University.
“From this year, we have four Colleges at Pacific TAFE, namely College of Business and Commerce, College of Tourism and Hospitality, College of Arts and Humanities, and College of Science, Technology and Environment, all of which are waiting to provide you with the best experience here at USP Pacific TAFE,” he said.
“Once again welcome to USP’s Pacific TAFE, the learning and teaching section with the highest number of internationally accredited and recognised qualifications, here at USP.”
He further reminded students the need to be self-dependent as they embark on a new chapter in their life.
“Previously you may have relied on your parents, your families/ relatives, teachers and even your friends to make part of most decisions in your life but now, you are largely in charge of your own destiny,” he said
“At times you may feel overwhelmed yet it will be interesting to find out what’s at the end of the tunnel. You may feel challenged yet the results will be empowering in itself. Believe me; you will cherish all these memories years later. Once you leave the University, all the ‘scary times’ you made tough decisions will remind you how successful and strong a person you have become.”
The orientation programme included presentations from all heads of colleges and presentations from Student Learning Support (Pacific TAFE), Student Administrative Services, Library, Campus Life, USP security, Moodle support, Information Technology and a separate presentation on sexual harassment and bullying policy.
