The University of the South Pacific (USP) organised a successful Career and Internship Fair 2019 for at the Laucala Campus from 6 – 9 August, 2019.
With the theme “Careers and Employability,” the Fair was attended by hundreds of students wishing to pursue careers in their respective fields of study.
A total of around 60 top employers from around Fiji who were invited to be part of the two days exposition were present at the student car park.
The exposition provided an opportunity for students and employers to meet face-to-face whereby students asked questions on possible requirements for attachment, internship and full time employment opportunities available with these employers.
Since it was an annual event, the students used the opportunity to find out more in-depth information about recruitment and human resources guidelines and learn about current employment opportunities which existed with these organisations.
There were also Faculty Focus Sessions organised for the three Faculties which were coordinated by the Career Centre at the Japan-Pacific ICT Theatre. This was attended by students in numbers from the 3 Faculties and Pacific TAFE.
Employers were also invited to talk to students on graduate recruitment and employment opportunities which existed with their organisations which students could benefit from.
During the week long programme, a Career Planning Session/Job Seeking Skills workshop was also organised for final year students.
This was a collaborative effort by the Employers and USP’s Career Centre and Services and topics covered included “Covering Letter, Interview Skills, Resume and CV and Career Portfolio.
The purpose of this workshop was to equip final year students with the right employability skills to make them more marketable in the employment market.
On the final day, USP’s Career Centre in collaboration with the School of Accounting organised and facilitated a huge job recruitment for four accounting firms - KPMG, Ernest and Young, Price Waterhouse Coopers and BDO Fiji.
Interviews were held at the USP Gymnasium and was attended by final year students from USP’s School of Accounting.
