Dancing with Naoki Takyo
At the Oceanian Art Gallery
23 April - 11 May
10a.m. - 4p.m. Monday to Friday
The Oceanian Art Gallery and Ikbal Jannif proudly present the award winning photography of Naoki Takyo, in his inaugural exhibition in Fiji. Originally from Japan, Naoki has spent the last 25 years living in seven different countries, travelling to many parts of the world. While living in Fiji, Naoki gave generously of his time and photographic skills. This exhibition illustrates his view of the Oceania Centre’s productions of Fine Dancing and Vaka, Birth of a Seer.
According to Naoki, his interactions with people, cultures and histories have shaped his philosophy as well as the way he utilizes the viewfinder to create ways of seeing that are not so obvious to the human eye. He enjoys exploring photography in challenging conditions, capturing something out of the ordinary.
Seeing these performances captured in time provides us this opportunity to acknowledge Nayoki’s photographic abilities. These stunning images capture the mood, costumes, and performative skills of those involved
