For 19-year-old Krishnil Narayan from Nausori, Fiji, attending Open Day at The University of the South Pacific (USP) was more than just a school outing – it was a defining moment that helped shape his future. Currently a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting at Laucala Campus, Narayan recalled the day with enthusiasm.
“I attended my first USP Open Day in 2024 when I was a Year 13 student of Baulevu High School,” he said. “My first impression of the campus was how huge it actually is. Like many high school students attending Open Day for the first time, he was unsure of what to expect. However, what stood out to him were the engaging displays and the welcoming environment.
“The School of Accounting, Finance and Economics (SAFE) displays really caught my attention,” he shared.
“I was able to gain deeper insights from professionals who assisted me in choosing my current programme. They highlighted the pathways between my course and the workforce standards and demands.”
Participating in the quiz activity at the SAFE booth and winning branded merchandise added a fun and memorable touch to the day for Narayan. More importantly, it solidified his decision to pursue accounting at USP.
“The Open Day helped me confirm my decision, and it gave me a better understanding of what the programme offers and how it aligns with my strengths.”
Coming from a supportive family that valued education, Narayan said he was privileged to receive constant support to pursue his academic goals. He believes the Open Day played a vital role in shaping his decision to enroll at USP.
“It exposed me to the wide variety of programmes offered. The event was informative and inspiring, which made me feel confident in choosing USP for my tertiary education.”
Narayan advised students attending the KPMG USP 2025 Open Day at the Laucala, Lautoka and Labasa campuses in Fiji on 15 August to enjoy the displays and ask a lot of questions to clear any doubts that they may have.
“It’s the best way to understand the university environment before joining.”
When asked to describe the USP Open Day in just three words, his response was instant.
“Fun, exciting and memorable.”
