Bio
Professor Daud Hassan was appointed as the Professor and Head of the USP Law Programme in April 2022. He is based at the USP Emalus Campus in Port-Vila, Vanuatu.
Professor Hassan has considerable teaching, research and community experience. He holds a PhD in the Law of the Sea and has actively engaged in the supervision of PhD Students in the areas of International and Comparative Environmental Law, Law of the Sea and Climate Change and International Human Rights Law. Professor Hassan’s research addresses issues of international and regional significance.
Professor Hassan has extensive experience in the higher education and tertiary sector internationally. During his time at the University of Western Sydney (Australia), Professor Hassan held several notable positions, including: Director of the International Ocean Governance Centre (ICOG), Director of Higher Degree Research and the Head of Disciplinary Law Programs. In addition, Professor Hassan also served as the Director of Research and Postgraduate Programs at the Victoria University (Australia).
Professor Hassan’s valuable contribution to education and research has been recognised through international awards, grants and visiting professorships and fellowships.
