    Jacob Mwathi Mati is a social scientist trained in Kenya and South Africa. His professional experience spans 20 years of work in the academia and international development as a researcher, lecturer and programme manager in several multi-country research and development programmes. He joined the USP Sociology team in August 2014 from The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg,  South Africa. He teaches courses relating to sociology of development and social policy.  Jacob is also an Associate Research Fellow at the Society, Work and Development (SWOP) Institute of The University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). 

    Courses taught:

    SO301: Sociology of Public Policy and Administration [Semester 1]
    SO408: Issues in Social and Public Policy [Semester 1]
    SO415: Contemporary Social Issues [Semester 2]
    SO409: Social Development [Semester 2]

    Research Interests / Expertise: Social movements, civil society and their intersections with development and governance. Current research projects are centred on power, civic agency, volunteerism and philanthropy.
