VARIOUS LEVELS OF CHINESE COURSES IN USP

A non-profit organization, the Confucius Institute at USP, is offering various levels of Chinese (Standard Chinese) courses in 2018, and will meet different demands from individuals, businesses, schools, government departments and NGOs. Different levels of credit courses (LL181, LL281, LL381 and LL382) and Social Courses are here for your selection. As a public institution affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education, Confucius Institute is committed to providing Chinese language and cultural teaching resources and services worldwide. We also offer Confucius Institute Scholarship to support some USP students and recommend excellent students to apply for the Chinese government scholarship.

Teaching content

The Social Courses for beginners focus on basic daily communication skills of Chinese - listening and speaking. It includes pronunciation and the most practical communication tasks needed in daily life. The intermediate courses cover a more extensive range of topics and concentrate on developing the language competence. The advanced courses enables students to communicate in greater depth and demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the perspectives of people from other cultures. The credit courses will not only focus on the conversational skills of Chinese, but its structure and usage. We also provide distinctive cultural workshops for students, such as Tea Ceremony, Chinese Ink Painting, Chinese Song Singing, and Cooking during the semester.

Expected results

  1. A certificate indicating language levels of Chinese will be issued upon your successful completion of the social class course. 
  2. Students can choose to take an internationally recognized Chinese language proficiency test (HSK). Please consult CI for more detail.
  3. Excellent students will be nominated for the Chinese Bridge Competition in China.

The Confucius Institute at USP is offering a Chinese training course of 10-hour-one-session for USP staff. You are welcome to join us for a Chinese learning journey.

Different levels of the courses will start from 18 September 2017. The course for beginners focuses on basic daily social communication skills of Chinese Language - listening and speaking. It starts with Chinese pronunciation, and includes the most practical communication tasks needed to meet the basic requirements of daily life in China. The intermediate course is a continuation of the beginners. It covers a more extensive range of topics and concentrates on developing the skills of language speaking, listening, basic reading and writing.

In the beginner's course, students will learn:

 

  • Chinese Phonetics of  Pinyin;
  • How to greet each other and introduce yourself in Chinese;
  • Numbers and time;
  • Seasons and weather;

The Intermediate course learners will learn:

  • Express likes and dislikes;
  • How to talk about family, occupations and age;
  • How to ask price and talk about money;
  • How to bargain;
  • How to express the size and color, etc.

The social courses for beginners focus on basic daily social communication skills of Chinese - listening and speaking. It includes pronunciation and the most practical communication tasks needed in daily life. The intermediate courses are a continuation of the beginners’ level, which cover a more extensive range of topics and concentrate on developing the language competence. The advanced courses are a continuation of the intermediate level which enables students to communicate in greater depth and demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the perspectives of people from other cultures. The credit courses will focus not only on the conversational skills of Chinese, but on its structure and usage. In-house Training Course for Hotels and Companies

We can offer an in-house training of Chinese language course for Fijian companies with a business relationship to China and Chinese. The program aims to introduce the learners to Chinese language, culture and some customs, helping them solve the problems that may occur in work. It will not only introduce learners to basic Chinese conversations and culture, but also improve listening and speaking skills of Chinese language in work scenarios.

By the end of this program, the learners will be able to:

  • Consolidate the language knowledge in the last training course.
  • Improve listening and speaking abilities especially in work scenarios.
  • Have a better understanding of Chinese culture and customs.

Emalus campus

Various Levels of Chinese Language Courses in the USP—Emalus Campus

(nǐ)  (hǎo)

 A nonprofit organization, the Confucius Classroom at Emalus Campus USP (CC-USP) was established in 2014, which has completed 5 semesters’ Chinese language courses and one semester credits course. Fourteen students have been sent to visit China. We offer Confucius Institute Scholarships to support some USP students and are authorized by the Chinese Embassy to select and recommend excellent students to apply for the Chinese government scholarship.  

Courses:

USP Credit Course (LL181, LL282, LL381)

Two 2-hour class sessions plus one 1-hour tutorial. 5 hours per week. Refer to the USP Calendar 2017 for the course details and fee schedule. (Details can be read from the website: www.usp.ac.fj/ci  and Facebook)

Chinese Courses for Social Students

Start from 8th, July. 2017. 17 weeks. 2 hours per week. ≤ 15 students.  VT11, 200.

Chinese Courses for kids

Start from 22nd, July, 2017. 14 weeks. Once a week. Two periods each time. 35 minutes per period, and a 5 minutes break. VT7,000.

 Teaching Content:

  1. To learn Chinese daily conversation, grammar, characters, in order to better communicate with Chinese;
  2. To experience and understand rich Chinese culture, such as tea culture and food culture, etc.

Expected Results:

  1. A certificate indicating language levels of Chinese will be issued upon completion of the course. 
  2. Students can choose to attend an internationally recognized Chinese language proficiency test (HSK). Please consult CC for detailed information.
  3. Excellent students will be recommended for excursions to China or Chinese scholarships.

For Social Beginner 1 and Credit Course LL181, you don’t need to have prior knowledge of Chinese language. For other courses, you are required to complete former levels or show relevant level of Chinese language skills. In-house training for a specific purpose can be negotiated with us.
