Eleventh Chinese Language course Graduation Ceremony

The Confucius Institute at The University of the South Pacific (CI-USP) successfully hosted the Eleventh Chinese Language course Graduation Ceremony




On the evening of June 6, 2017, the Confucius Institute at The University of the South Pacific (CI-USP) successfully held the eleventh Chinese class graduation ceremony at Oceanic Center at USP’s Laucala Campus. Dr Akanisi Kedrayate, Dean of Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE), Mr. Wang Anning, director of Political Department director of China Embassy to Fiji, Mr. Deng Xianfu, director of China Cultural Centre and the main officials of Chinese community attended the ceremony as guests. The Local Director, Ms. Sin Joan Yee and the Chinese Director, Dr. Yang Hui, CI-USP staff and students of social class and credit courses also attended the graduation ceremony. 

At the beginning of the graduation ceremony, Dr Akanisi Kedrayate, Mr. Wang Anning, Mr. Deng Xianfu, delivered the speeches successively, stressing the important role of Chinese language in modern era's globalization process and the significance of learning Chinese, affirming CI-USP’s contributions and achievements in promoting Chinese language in South Pacific region. They encouraged students to study hard and take command of Chinese. 

Then, the guests awarded certificates of completion to 74 students who studied Chinese course for a semester in CI-USP and passed the final exam; distributed the awards to the excellent students and students who have passed the HSK and HSKK. 

Subsequently, Confucius Institute students and staff presented a brilliant show. Classical songs “Sweet love” "Friend" and "Story of time" lightened up the audiences’ passion; poetry recitation "Homesickness" and "Believe the future" showed the beauty of the rhythm of Chinese language; wonderful dance, "Beijing welcomes you", "Love Waltz", "Little apple", and "Colorful light" brings the whole atmosphere to a climax. Finally, the guests and the students of CI- USP enjoyed dinner together and ended the ceremony successfully.

The graduation ceremony of CI- USP holds once a semester. It is a summary of teaching work and it gives stage for the students to show their Chinese learning achievements. At the same time, CI- USP shows Chinese culture and promotes communications between teachers and students through the ceremony; enhances students' confidence and interest in learning Chinese, and deepens CI- USP’s impact in the South Pacific region.
