USP Alafua officially opens new Gymnasium and USP POPP Dance Space - Alafua Campus
The University of the South Pacific’s Alafua Campus now boasts a new gymnasium and dance space. The campus officially opened the gymnasium and dance space on 10 May, 2013.
Acting Campus Director and Coordinator, Continuing and Community Education, Mrs Ruby Va’a, said the official opening featured a performance from the USP Alafua Pacific Outreach Programme for Polynesia (POPP) dance theatre, and was very much enjoyed by the audience.
“I wish to thank USPSA-Alafua for the willingness to join in and the great team effort to ensure the programme was inclusive of students and staff. Also, thanks USPSA-AC for the sandwiches and soda which aptly rounded off the successful event,” she said.
She acknowledged the funding assistance received from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Regional Campuses, Dr Esther Williams, CAPEX collection.
“We also unveiled the newly repaired billiard table and opened our multipurpose courts for tennis, netball and basketball just opposite the gym,” she added.
The Pacific Outreach Coordinator for Polynesia, Tuilagi Seiuli Allan Alo Va'ai said students and staff were very excited about the new space.
“There is now a challenge for all USP Alafua staff to participate in these dance classes as a great way to informally socialise with each other,” he added.
He said the dance space would accommodate dance classes for POPP and will also hold Zumba sessions.
He thanked Mrs Va’a for her support for POPP and the development of these artistic and leisure activities for Alafua students.
