Huge Turnout of Freshers at USP Lautoka Campus Orientation

The USP Lautoka Campus was jam-packed with students during its two-day orientation programme for 2014.

The programme began on Thursday, 20th February, with a welcome address by Campus Director Dr Pramila Devi who also briefly introduced the freshers about the campus and its facilities, the Student Academic Services and student counseling.

Dr. Devi urged the students to act responsibly and make best use of all the resources, facilities and services offered by the campus for their learning purposes.

She emphasized on the usefulness of mobile phones, PC tablets and other technologies such as wifi and encouraged the students to take advantage of all these resources to assist them in their studies.

She told the students to be organized and wisely manage their time and seek assistance from the campus staff when necessary.

The students were also introduced to the campus staff and the various student support services available at the campus, such as Moodle, REACT, Student Online Services (SOLS), IT Services and Library.

Academic and other senior staff of the Campus took turns to facilitate the various modules featured in the orientation programme aimed at enhancing students’ learning process.

Dr Devi said she was greatly pleased with the enthusiasm and interest shown by new students as apparent in the high number of student participation.
The orientation programme, known as Success @ USP, is conducted at the beginning of each semester, featuring activity-filled, informative and highly interactive sessions to assist the new students in their learning.

The programme was quite successful and the Campus received quite positive feedback from the participating students.

Foundation student Anisha Sadiq said she found the programme very interesting and useful.  “Being new to the USP environment, the orientation programme made us well familiarized with it,” she said.

Savenaca Komaisavai, enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce Programme, said the orientation programme was very informative, so much so that he could confidently say he had learned all the basics about the university and the Lautoka Campus.  He said he was now ready to begin his learning journey with USP. Komaisavai said he also had the opportunity to meet the Campus staff whom he found very friendly and helpful.

All participating students were treated to refreshments and lunch.

New Students Benefit from the Orientation Programme

The orientation programme at the USP Lautoka Campus concluded yesterday with interesting giveaways to students as a token of appreciation for their enthusiastic participation and feedback.

Campus’ Student Academic Services Coordinator Joseva Veresi and Teaching Assistant Krishen Kumar presented the items to students following a very interactive session that gave students the opportunity to offer their feedback on the two days programme.

The giveaway items included USP branded ball pens, parker pens, pencil case, key tags, and USB flash drives.
According to feedback from the students, the Success @ USP orientation programme was well received by the newcomers and the information and tips presented to them by the various speakers were very useful.
