The University of the South Pacific Lautoka Campus has taken on board its first ever Senior Peer Mentors this semester.
The four mentors were inducted into USP’s Senior Peer Mentoring Programme on Thursday, 13 March followed by training session facilitated by Student Learning Specialist Niseta Buatava and Student First Year Experience Coordinator Shareeni Kala from Laucala Campus.
The senior peer mentoring programme at Lautoka Campus covers different academic disciplines, which are Management, Law, English for Academic Purposes (UU114) and Pacific Worlds (UU204), and their mentors are Susan Mani, Nimita Sharma, Asilika Masikolikoli and Samisoni Naba respectively. Naba will also mentor for UU204.
Campus Director Dr. Pramila Devi said the programme had proven successful at the Laucala Campus in Suva and that she had been envisioning the programme to be run in Lautoka as well.
Dr. Devi said the Senior Peer Mentoring programme was aimed at enhancing the learning environment of the USP Lautoka Campus.
“I hope the programme will bring about positive results especially in terms of improving students’ performance,” she said.
